What are cookies and how we use them?

Which are the main kinds of cookies?
Following, a brief description of the different kinds of cookies:

Session and Persistent Cookies

The “persistent” cookies life is set by the website and can last from a few minutes to several years.

First-party and third-party Cookies

The First party Cookies, that belong to the website that has created them. The third party Cookies, that are created by domains that are different from the one shown in the address bar, get their data stored at the third party’s domain. Technical cookies and tracking Cookies

The Technical cookies are those used exclusively with a view to carrying out the transmission of a communication on an electronic communications network, or insofar as this is strictly necessary to the provider of an information society service that has been explicitly requested by the contracting party or user to provide the said service.” (cfr. art. 122, comma 1, Privacy Code). They are not used for furthermore purposes and are usually installed directly by the webmaster. Amongst them there are functional Cookies, that allow the user to surf according to selected criteria (for example the language, selected products for purchase) with the purpose of improving the given service. The Analytics Cookies are assimilated to the technical Cookies when directly used by the webmaster for gathering information, in an aggregate form, on the number of users and on how these visit the site itself.

The Tracking Cookies, that have as main function that of creating user profiles and are used for sending advertisement messages in line with the preferences manifested by the user itself while surfing the web. Considering the particular invasive nature that such devices can have in the private sphere of the users, according to the European and Italian regulations the user has to be properly informed on the use of the cookies and subsequently express their valid consent. This website does not use this kind of cookies.

Which cookies are used by the this website and which are their purposes?
__utma > Keeps track of how many times a visitor accesses the website, when was the first visit and when the last one. Google Analytics uses this cookie to calculate, for example, after how many days and accesses a user completes an order starting from the first access.

__utmb and __utmc > These two cookies work together and are used for calculating the length of a visit. The _utmb cookie keeps track of the exact moment in which a user enters the site, while the _utmc cookie keeps exact track of the exact moment in which a user leaves the website.

__utmt > Allows Google Analytics to conform its servers to a high amount of data, without facing an overload of requests

__utmz > Keeps track of the geographical origin of the user, which search engine he has used, which key word he has searched to access the website.
